- 2 cups self-rising flour see substitutions below
- 1 cup cold heavy cream
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted (plus more for brushing tops)
Preheat and Prepare
Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, stir together the self-rising flour and cold heavy cream until just combined. The dough will be slightly sticky.
Turn and Fold
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Gently press it into a rectangle and fold it over itself 2–3 times. This helps create flaky layers.
Cut Biscuits
Flatten dough to about 3/4-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter (or glass) to cut out circles. Gather scraps and repeat until all dough is used.
Bake
Place biscuits on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in a hot oven for 12–15 minutes, until the tops are golden brown.
Brush with Butter
Right after baking, brush the tops with melted butter. Serve warm!
Tips for Success:
-
Don’t overmix: Stir just until combined. Overmixing = tough biscuits.
-
Use cold ingredients: Keeps butter from melting before baking.
-
Handle dough gently: Press and fold lightly for fluffy, flaky layers.
Common Mistakes:
-
Too much flour: Don’t pack flour when measuring. Spoon and level it.
-
Thin dough: Rolling too thin will make flat biscuits.
-
Crowding the pan: Leave space between biscuits so edges crisp up.
