Ingredients

  • 5 cans 15 ounces each cut green beans, drained (or substitute with fresh green beans or frozen green beans)
  • 12 slices crispy bacon cooked and crumbled (turkey bacon works too)
  • cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter 1 stick, melted
  • ¼ cup soy sauce – use low-sodium soy sauce if you prefer
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Optional Garnish:
  • Fresh parsley chopped
  • Cracked black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the bacon. In a large skillet, fry 12 slices of bacon over medium-high heat until crispy. Drain on paper towels and crumble into small pieces.
  • Prepare the sauce. In a bowl, whisk together: ⅔ cup brown sugar, ½ cup melted butter, ¼ cup soy sauce, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon onion powder.
  • Assemble the casserole. In a large baking dish, add the drained green beans. Pour the sauce over the beans, then top with crumbled bacon.
  • Bake the green beans. Place in the oven and bake uncovered for 30 minutes. The sauce will bubble and caramelize around the edges.
  • Serve and enjoy! Garnish with parsley and black pepper if desired. Serve hot with your favorite main course.

Notes

  • Don’t skip draining the green beans—excess liquid will water down your sauce.
  • Crisp the bacon well for the best flavor and texture.
  • Taste the sauce before baking and adjust sweetness or saltiness to your preference.
  • Don’t overbake—the beans should be tender but not mushy.
  • To make ahead, assemble everything, cover with foil, and refrigerate overnight. Bake before serving.
